Palm Springs After-Glow is a moisturizer borne of necessity; a happy amalgamation of multiple commercially available moisturizers. The cream has a wonderful, thick-creamy texture; a “spa-like” scent; and it magically moisturizes better than any of the individual ingredients do on their own.

A word of warning: Palm Springs After-Glow feels a little “greasy” initially. . . but it absorbs quickly. And while it has a strong scent initially, once you apply it, it rapidly fades to a pleasant, light, clean smell on your skin — some describe it as “spa-like’ or “like a European soap.”

The Palm Springs After-Glow story

Moving to Palm Springs everyone prepped me for desert dryness — recommending favorite moisturizers. Over time I discovered a wonderful, commercial moisturizer — with a lot of Vitamins A & D — that became my go-to. But I now had a drawer full of different lotions, creams, butters, oils, salves, and lotions; and some were really expensive!

One day I had a “Eureka” moment and dumped them all into my Cuisinart — along with some essential oils. The resulting cream I whirled up had a wonderful texture; a “spa-like” scent; and, most-importantly, it moisturized better than any of the products separately. My hands, face, arms and legs — even my sandal-callused feet — just drank it up!

I started to give jars to friends (better than a bottle of wine, right?) and in a short time I started getting requests for more: “We’ll be happy to pay your for another jar" became an oft-heard refrain. Palm Springs After-Glow was born — and now I make a fresh batch quarterly!

What’s in it?

Palm Springs After-Glow is a happy amalgamation of multiple commercially available products. Each — including those intended for use on babies or sensitive skin — includes one or two sort-of-scary, chemical-sounding stabilizers, surfactants, and humectants. But in doing my homework, I learned the important function each performs to help moisturizer work. Now that I’m better educated, I feel very comfortable with every ingredients in Palm Springs After-Glow — especially since it works so dang well:

Here’s the ingredient breakdown:

Water; Mineral Oil; Petrolatum; Cocoa Seed Butter; Coconut Oil (and its Caprylic Fatty Acid); Almond Oil; Olive Oil; Shea Butter; Vitamin E; Aloe Vera; Stearic Acid; Glycerin; Cetyl Alcohol; Glyceryl Stearate; Vitamin B5; Allantoin; Biotin; Jojoba Seed Oil; Safflower Seed Oil; Proplyne Glycol; Methylparaben; Propylparaben; Aloe Extract; Oat Kernel Extract; Aragon Oil; Avocado Oil; Vitamin C (Ascorbic / Citric Acid); Vitamin A; Vitamin D3; Extra Virgin Olive Oil; Dimethicone; Triethanlamine; steam-distilled Lavender, Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Pine, and Geranium Essential Oils. Plus Jergen’s Medium-to-Tan Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer to give you a touch of color.

What’s it cost?

The Q1 2019 batch sells for $12 for a 3 oz. cosmetic jar. If you want it shipped, it costs $8 for postage and handling.
